What is your theory behind the idea of magical attacks? Do you think it has more to do with your own perception or is there real substance to it? Perhaps a combination of both? Either way, what do you do about it? How do you protect yourself? Other ideas?
My admittedly limited experience in this area of the occult suggests that magical attacks, while rare, are definitely a real possibility. In my opinion, the best protection against any type of curse is to elevate yourself above the emotions of hatred and envy which all curses are ultimately fueled by. If you are afraid of a psychic or magical attack, you are all the more vulnerable to it because fear and hatred are emotional kin. Someone who is in a place of love and appreciation (rather than fear and anger) cannot be touched by a curse, no matter how malevolent. I've come to this conclusion based on my own experience of being targeted by an angry ex-friend who studied the occult with me. Even after we parted ways I would occassionally feel a palpably evil presence following me around at times (I can only compare it to the sensation of being watched). Only when I stopped fearing him did these sensations go away and I haven't had any problems since (it has been over 6 years now). Admittedly, this isn't the best evidence, I know, but it makes sense to me. Like attracts like. Fear makes you a lightning rod for negative magical energies. Love is the best protection.
I could've replied yesterday but I wanted to wait and ponder my response to this thread. The commonality of magical attacks can be anywhere on a range from not often to often, depending on how I discern the situation. Normally, discerning will allow me to pray and seek Spirit's advice on what is truly going on. However, some individuals' imagination will run amok and that will make the situation worse than it really is, this is sometimes the most common case that I handle. Magical attacks can range anywhere from someone casting a spell or laying tracks against an individual to someone having a magical working backfire. Very rarely, does a magical attack involve demonic entities or a serious case of possession. As far as perception and substance, there is a combination of both as far as I have seen. In the movie The Skeleton Key Caroline states, "But I heard it can't hurt you. It can't hurt you if you don't believe." Correction: Sometimes that is true, sometimes that is not. If someone who has studied their Craft for a long time and has power that can move beyond your fears, then you're simply screwed unless you have a helluva lot of protection or have another person who has a vast amount of knowledge in their Craft take care of the reversal and such for you. Mind you, these are my beliefs. Many will think that if you don't believe in it you are fine, and that's their belief, but for someone to say that to me if I am helping them or working on their behalf, I will pity them in their ignorance. For example, it can be messy especially when generational feuds go on between two magical families and there is reversals being reversed and it just gets ugly. As far as protection, it can vary depending on the individual and their strength within their Craft. For me, it can be as simple as sending back light and peace and as complex as cursing/blasting. I do agree with Adumbra when he stated, "Love is the best protection." I'm very fond of Aleister Crowley's statement, "Love is the Law, Love under Will." If you do anything with Love (love of self, love of family, etc.) then your Will from that Love will emanate into the workings and will create a ripple effect and magnify the effects of your workings.
