The venerable "What are you currently reading?" thread. Looks like I'm starting it: Harding, Elizabeth U. (1993) Kali: The Black Goddess of Dakshineswar. Wong, Eva. (1990) Seven Taoist Masters: A Folk Novel of China. Cleary, Thomas. (1986) The Inner Teachings of Taoism. (translation of Chang Po-Tuan's treatise) [Review] -Qaexl
I've been circling around this for a while. I think I met an emanation of the Devi back in spring during a shaman's journey ... and She suddenly popped up synchronistically three weeks ago. That book is interesting. It had a chapter on one of the great Kali devotees ... and some of his experiences jived with my own even though I was coming through a South American rite. -Qaexl
Yes - his account is very striking! In my case it was Mahadeva, i.e. Shiva, who jumped out at me unexpectedly along the way, although Hanuman had been popping up an awful lot before then.
Yeah. I didn't know Shiva meditated in the Himalaya and occasionally wandered around as an ancient hipster. I'll probably get around to him at some point. The part that popped out for me was the story in which Shiva laid himself down as a corpse when the Devi was intoxicated with bloodlust. Complete quiescence of the male vanity. I've been getting more interested in Questing recently. I have an incoming stack related to the Taoist flavors of questing. Maybe post a bit about that in Phantasmorgoria. -Qaexl
